Overview
SQM Mobile processes sky quality measurement data, astronomical calculations, and optional location information locally on your iOS device.
Information We Collect
- GPS coordinates when you grant location permission, used for observation-site coordinates, sun and moon positions, timezone-appropriate astronomical calculations, and measurement context.
- Manual coordinates if you choose not to use GPS.
- Observation notes or comments you add to measurements.
- Astronomical calculations such as sun and moon positions, twilight times, and Moon, Milky Way, and brightness context computed on your device.
Local Processing Only
- All calculations occur on your iOS device.
- No measurement data or location information are transmitted to GerSpatial servers.
- Location data are embedded in measurement records uploaded to your CloudKit container in your iCloud account.
- Data synchronisation takes place automatically using Apple's secure CloudKit system when both macOS and iOS devices are signed in to the same iCloud account.
- Data flow is unidirectional: iOS to CloudKit to macOS.
Data Storage
- All data is stored locally on your iOS device using standard iOS storage mechanisms.
- Preferences are stored in iOS UserDefaults.
- Measurement data is saved in app-specific storage areas.
- Data may be included in iOS device backups according to your device settings.
Network Activity
- CloudKit synchronisation transmits data to your iCloud account.
- Your location, measurements, or personal information are never sent to GerSpatial servers.
- We do not collect usage statistics or crash reports.
Controls
- Grant or revoke location access in iOS Settings.
- Use the app without location services by entering coordinates manually.
- View, delete, or reset stored data through the app.
- Uninstalling the app removes associated local data.
Third-Party Services and Sharing
- We do not use third-party analytics services.
- No tracking SDKs or advertising frameworks are included.
- Measurement data remains on your device and in your iCloud account.
Children's Privacy
- The app does not require personal information beyond optional location data.
- The app is appropriate for educational use when supervised.
